In 2025, the congress returned with greater ambition and a strengthened international profile.
Over the course of two days, the key themes defining the immediate future were analyzed: “Geopolitics and Geoeconomics: The New Global Chessboard” and “Leadership in the Digital Age: Economy, Work, and Society in Transformation.”
The event featured insights from world-renowned figures such as economist and recent 2024 Nobel Laureate in Economics, Daron Acemoğlu; 2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dmitry Murátov; political analyst Brian Wong; and economist María Lorca-Susino, alongside other top-tier national and international speakers.
Furthermore, the program was enriched by contributions from José Manuel Durão Barroso, former Prime Minister of Portugal and former President of the European Commission; Amparo Alonso, Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the UDC; and Carolina Marín, recipient of the 2024 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports.
As a finishing touch, the congress concluded with a day dedicated to culture, featuring a concert by BAIUCA and the comedy of Carlos Blanco.
“The Geopolitics of Truth: The New Battleground of Global Power”
The growing rivalry among major powers has brought the economy back to the center of world politics. In a context of fragmentation and mistrust, financial flows, supply chains, and critical technologies are increasingly used as instruments of power and national security.
China and other emerging economies are promoting an alternative order that challenges the legitimacy of the liberal system established after 1945, while Europe and the United States are redefining their industrial, energy, and digital policies to preserve strategic autonomy.
The roundtable brings together economic, political, and social perspectives not only to explore whether we are witnessing the emergence of a new global order or the return of old strategies through new means, but also to reflect on where this geoeconomic landscape may be heading in the years to come.
“Beyond the algorithm: Artificial Intelligence with a human purpose”
“Technology, productivity, and cohesion: toward a new social contract”
The digital economy has ceased to be a promise and has become an unstoppable reality that touches every corner of our lives—from how we work and relate to one another, to how we produce, consume, and create value. Yet this new paradigm is advancing faster than the rules meant to guide it, raising critical challenges for economic sustainability, equity, and social cohesion.
This roundtable brings together leading international experts in technology, regulation, and the digital economy to examine a fundamental question: **Are we prepared to govern an economy driven by algorithms, data, and platforms?** From the rise of solo work on digital platforms and the automation of jobs to the debate over data privacy and the disruptive emergence of artificial intelligence, the session will explore the inevitable clash between accelerated innovation and overstretched legal frameworks.
